I cannot wait for the new season of The Tudors. The Showtime website even has a wiki for viewers to point out historical innaccuracies. And why not? If they don’t host it, someone else will, right?
I also am a sucker for Phillipa Gregory’s historical novels, so I’ve been waiting for the release of The Other Boleyn Girl. I knew there was a British version of the novel on TV, but until recently, I couldn’t find a copy here, so now I’ll simply wait.
I think the homepages for these shows are a visual delight. They are lush and suggestive, and ripe for a feminist critique, I’m sure. I confess that I don’t care. I simply need my dose of historical costume drama and visual spectacle.
I also have been waiting patiently for a break in the semester to play Oblivion again. I was side tracked for the first few weeks of the semester (before papers rolled in) by Two Worlds. When I do get to play, though, it’s a real treat. Because my playing time is very sporadic, I gave up WoWabout two years ago (that, and I’m not sure if I like playing online with others). With my new laptop, though, it might be more of a possibility. Or should I try Second Life for the first time? Are any of you gamers? Any suggestions?

Hey Jenn,
I jumped in my skin when I saw you mention Oblivion and Two Worlds. Those games have taken up such a huge chunk of my thought, if not my actual gaming-time, in the past year.
See, I’m a huge fan of small (up to a dozen) group multiplayer. I tried WoW and didn’t get into it–too impersonal. I tried single-player games and gave them up as well because, regardless of how compelling the plot or wonderful the gameplay, they’re -lonely- to me.
My ideal game for the longest time was a multiplayer, almost co-op Oblivion. When I first heard of Two Worlds, back when it was just announced, I was giddy. It seemed like it was going to be exactly what I wanted. Alas, I hear it was awful. I played a little of the demo and was shocked by the cheesy dialog, poor sound quality and uninteresting combat.
Anyway, to answer your last two questions: No, I wouldn’t suggest Second Life. It’s great in theory, but it’s lately become a melting pot of commercialism and weirdos. (I don’t use the term ‘weird’ lightly, btw.) Finally, yes, I’m a pretty big gamer. From the sound of it, so is Tricha, from the sound of it.
You’re welcome to visit my game-related blog, http://pining.wordpress.com anytime. If you’re keen, I could list you as a contributor. I loves me some collaboration!

I agree; small groups might not be so bad, but I haven’t tried anything else yet (though XBOX Live might be a starting point, I suppose). I hated that in WoW, every time I turned around someone was either picking a fight with me or doing the dirty dancing thing. Sorry, that’s not what I was there for. I miss the old WoW single-player games.
Two Worlds was really cheesy with dialog. Still, I played it for quite some time. LOTS of options with weapons and such. Almost too many.
I have looked at your site! I think my skills and knowledge are sub par, but I did subscribe to your feed. I don’t know if I game enough to contribute much!
